Six60 —

We received this exciting brief from Julia Parnell and her team at Notable Pictures, asking us to bring a graphic style and animation character to compliment an epic New Zealand documentary – Six60’s ‘Till The Lights Go Out'.

We set out to really push the design of the GFX to be bold and stand out in a way that is unavoidable and characterful much like Six60 themselves.

We leapt off from the idea of lights at a show – their pulse and role as the “announcers of action” drawing attention at key moments. Using various renders of lights turning on revealed information in interesting ways, adding pace to key moments in the film and a layer of distinctiveness in the commentary at other times.

The size of the text and placement of each word was critical – tracking in to each shot to help it sit perfectly within the environment became a careful juggle for the animation team, balancing the need to add interest and yet not detract from the wider content in the shot.

We were super proud to have had the opportunity to work on this film and be a small part of its story – going on to be number one at the box office for four straight weeks.
